Between the Sienese hills, here the time passes by faster, and yet it gives a second chance to old-fashioned furniture. Here furniture's reinvented, a veritable clinic. The mission of Sestini & Corti is quite clear: taking an object, a matter, and respect its story that talks us of the history of its territory and of the handicraft where it was first made. Everything starts from waste materials that come from the demolition of old farmhouses and small farms leaving behind old timber, terracotta tiles, stones and iron or vintage oxidated tools. These pieces are "salvaged" with the objective of creating new pieces of furniture and revive some of them by using their natural high-quality materials to build up something new. The happy ending is assured. "Old doors and windows frames become mirrors' frame, an old varnished base of a table pairs off with a reclaimed pine top, an old-fashioned counter sits right next to a brand new led tv in a dining room - they tell me. "Somewhere in between design and matter you can find Riserva, a line of custom-made objects where the unevenness of wood and the linearity of the iron shapes get together." Sestini & Corti is not just products, like for example the restoration of the loft in Montepulciano:sorrounded by the olive groves and vineyards, the plan of the refurbishemnt of this beautiful house was completely planned by Jacopo Sestini. The overall style of this house is contemporary, and you can see clean surfaces painted in neutral colours, mixed up with old and vintage objects (indutrial lamps and Singer sewing machine) and wooden pieces of furniture made of reclaimed timber and iron structures (wooden cubes, shelves, the Minimal table, A Cecce chair and colored boards). The Italian article is by Marco Magalini.
